Ellen Shumka

Ellen Shumka is a doctoral candidate in School and Applied Child Psychology at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada. Ellen’s previous academic training includes a M.A. in School Psychology from UBC, and a joint-honors B.A. in Psychology and English from the University of Waterloo. In 2018, Ellen completed her post-doctoral internship in clinical psychology at the Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut. During her graduate studies, Ellen has been engaged in numerous research projects regarding the social and emotional development of children, most notably in the areas of anxiety.

Ellen’s doctoral dissertation focused on better understanding the social-emotional competencies of children with selective mutism. During her doctoral studies, Ellen worked as a content collaborator for Anxiety Canada’s website. Specifically, Ellen helped with the production of selective mutism videos and edited content for a variety of parent-child and student-teacher online resources.
